Hello i am new here. and I have a question? my 1 yr old golden retriever went in heat around october 5th so when i noticed i seperated her from our male dog but while i was at work she jumped the fence and got in with the male, now her nipples are bigger, she seems to be sleeping more and waddling when she walks, she is even more lovable. Are they signs of a pregnant dog? im really worried because she is young but i dont want to abort her puppies now if she is pregnant? Can anyone help?

these are signs that your dog could be pregnant though she could also be experiencing a phantom pregnancy where she will show all biological and emotional signs but not produce puppies to ease your lmind get in contact with your vet and they will examin her and scan her this will be the only way they will know for shore if she is pregnant.:)

so is that like a false pregnancy? and even if the male mates on her she doesnt always get pregnant?
Angel...your dog isn't too young to have a litter...they can become pregnant during the first heat cycle...separating them means no contact at all, or spaying/neutering..usually at 6 months...I'm willing to bet she is indeed pregnant.

no.....young healthy animals are just like young healthy people...can get pregnant at the drop of a hat....he shouldn't be anywhere near her if you don't want her pregnant. You can't possibly count on her "not always getting pregnant". As far as I know (and could be wrong)..the odds are extremely highly stacked in the other direction...she's mostly likedly TO get pregnant. You've already been given excellent advice..a vet will make the determination...but from the physical signs, I'd still put money on it.

dont worry many dogs know instyinctively what to do but a good book to get is the bokk of the bitch it is very helpful. here are a few tips from a well practiced doggie birthing partener. one organize a quiet room where the bitch has a large bed and away from house business so she can nest and whelp without being disturbed by children and other pets and strangers, she should be introduced to room a couple of weeks before whelping. contact vet a couple of days before the birth to remind them it is due so they can leave room for any problems.
bitch will start to nest and scratch a day or so before whelping and her temperature will drop in the last hours before birth, first visable signs are her pacing, and straining, have warm towels ready for help drying pups and removing sac. the bitch will generally bite of the umbilical cord, let her she will also like the pups dry.
if she is straining for two or more hours and no sign of pup seek veterinary help. there is so much you need to know and there is not enough space here so get the book of the bitch by evans and ask us specific questions so we can help you not to worry but even the best of us do that. i was worried when my bitch was still panting but had not strained for three hours so took her to the vets they xrayed and found no more pups but that she was constipated:( but it was worth the expense to ensure her safety.

I am a former ER vet tech it appears that people have given you some good advice. The pups are probably here by now but the best thing you can do is have her spaid as soon as possible to insure you or her does not have to go through this again. :) You can find helpful information at snappyshop.com/index.cgi?affd=lulamay just click on pets.
