New to this forum. I adopted a sweet, healthy female 5 yr old cocker spaniel last summer and am loving having her. Anybody else have a cocker?
Looking forward to reading the posts and learning new things.

Welcome Carol!!! Rescuing dogs is a great thing to do; especially older ones. They take patience and love. One of my borders was from a coonhound kennel that was using her as a friend for a campaigning champion. She too was banished and lived in a kennel by herself with free feeding and water. At 8 months when I asked if I could take her, she did not know her name, she did not know how to go up just front stairs to a house, and she crawled on her belly when she encountered carpet. It has taken a little over 7 years to get her "somewhat normal." She is the loviest, sweetest, neurotic dog you will ever meet. I love Ontario.:)

As I read the postings here, I wonder why very few of you say where you are from. Especially if you are mentioning a pet available or an event, it would be helpful to us who want to help.
Also, we love hearing about your pet, tell us the breed, age,. We are interested and lots of folks here seem to have a lot of knowledge.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Yes I am partial to the senior. Casey has bonded quickly and gotten over so many little fears. My vet is amazed at how well she adjusted.
You must have done an amazing job with your rescue. I hope to have Casey for about 10 yrs if I am able to keep her healthy.
I am still looking for a companion for Casey, another senior with a sweet nature to offer a retirement package to. Casey misses having another dog around. I have looked a a few but they would require too much attention and would be better off as the only pet in a household. It is hard to walk away but it has to be good for Casey too.
This site is so user friendly. I am enjoying investigating it. Love the way your topics are arranged.

hey carol and casey were from arthur ontario thanks for your feed back on the neutering thing i think its my own selfishness not to leave him over night hes never been away from me like not even for a few hours. my husband is a truck driver and i just lost my one dog of 13 yrs to lymphoma last january then i waited just a few months and got a black lab then when he was 6 months, 2 days before his visit to the vet to get fixed he got out of the house and got hit by a p/u truck so anyway im not whining or anything but i really just dont want my " banditto " leaving my site anyway thanks again nice to meet yas

Oh I can relate to your distress and worry.
I never allow my door to be open until Casey is leashed. I have a long training leash which is usually attached to a doorknob somewhere and the other end on her. I live in town and traffic is not heavy on my street but it only takes one car, one dog and yikes.
Trust that your vet wants the best for your pup. Neutering is your loving treatment of your pet. Congratulations on that. He will be fine and after a little grogginess back to normal very quickly.
This is where a crate is a godsend. The door can be left open, as I do with Casey, but it is her sanctuary and safe haven. When someone comes to door or I have to do some running in and out, the door is closed, keeping her safe. I would rather hear her whine than not hear her at all forever.
How about a photo of your pup?

Hi Carol, another Canadian friend I see. I'm thankul that our back door opens into the dogs' fenced yard. I would freak if one of them ever got hit by a vehicle. They aren't allowed out of their fenced area unless on leash and going for a walk.

Oh that is what I am aiming for. My neighbours are helping me put up a fence on the one side of my yard that is not yet fenced. Then I can get a pet door.
I can hardly wait.
Nice to meet you Shelley.
