In having my companions through their golden years I've found things that can ease aging. I'm a believer in supplements and I've used Curcumin with success as my Sr. Pug at one point showed me his mind was not as it had been. Curcumin is basically tumeric spice. If we look at Pakistanian Indians who live into their 90's we can see while their bodies are old their brains are plaque free because they for years incorporated tumeric in their diets. I found in 30 to 45 days improvement ocurred. After that I switched to Jarrows Formulas Mega PC 35 which contains triple strength Lecithin with phosphatidylcholine. It is good for brain and liver function. Keeping the liver bolstered is key. If liver enzymes in blood workups ever are high, Traditional Tibetan Liver Supplement will turn that around. And if anemia could be present B-12 will improve that. Quality food with good vegetables will only help. And of course providing TLC as the changes occur will always bring your companion peace of mind.

Very interesting stuff! My moms Shih Tzu Bubba was diagnosed with cancer of the lung and we were told by a friend to give Flax Seed Oil and so we did. The vet had given him only 6months... he lived another 3 years and when we had him x rayed again there were no signs of the cancer!!!! I don't know if the Flax Seed oil did its trick or if the vet had missdiagnosed Bubba... either way we got him a little longer. ;)

Great info Linda! I have had to deal with doggy dementia on a couple occasions too. My female had a stroke coming off Prednisone for Autoimmune disease (dogs don't have strokes...geriatric vestibular incident sorry) but she responded well to slowly getting her back into playing ball and I had her in diapers for her last few years.

I love homeopathics though and have used them for many years. The best thing is it's natural and does not cost as much as prescription meds which may have numerous side effects!
