Hi,

My name is Kelli and I Live in New Jersey. I have 2 twodogs One is a 12 yr old very passive golden retriever. The other one is 16 months old, very aggressive and demanding, he is half golden retriever/german sherpard and the vet believes he may have husky in him. The puppy is a very special dog to me because he was a rescue dog. He was left tied and beaten to a pole in a very bad neghbordhood. The rescue shelter took him in and found foster family. A very nice vet did a 5500 surgery on the pup and he needed 4 pins in his femur to hold the bones together. I heard about this, contacted the shelter and fatefully adopted my first born son, Bailey. Haha. People think I am crazy. But I am sure many of you can relate. Bailey has lots of anxiety problems, he chews himself, his is on tranquilzers and he is terrified my any new loud noise. Its heartbreaking but he is a great joy!! I will post a picture soon. The 12 year old name is Bud. He is lots of allergies problems and has rheumatoid arthritis. But he is in over all good health for a 12 year old. I would love to here from everyone!! Feel free to email. Kelli:p :p

hi im 10 and my name is renay. i hav a really sweet, gentle, quiet Golden Retriever who hardly ever barks. She had 6 pups on the 20th of October and we might keep 1. She totally loves cuddles and jumping on the trampoline.

She goes to the beach every Sunday and swims and socializes a lot. She loves making friends and going for long walks, jogs nd runs.

She is my best friend and always will be.

I LOVE HER SOOOOO MUCH AND WILL NEVER LET HER GO!!

I have a rescue, now almost 8. She would not go out in the yard if the lawnmower was out. She hid under a bench at practice from her flyball teammates for 2 years. I made sure she got lots of exercise and took her to an accupunturist that gave her herbs. Since then the riding lawnmower and loud noises are not barriers to enjoying life. I also take her to a trainer to help me see things I don't pickup on that I was doing to enable her to be "special."

Renay,

My dogs would love to be close enough to the beach to swim so much. They love that more than flyball. Next to hiking to mountain lakes the beach is their favorite. I envy you and your dog. My dog Opie is 10 and she is my best friend too.

We rescued a German Shepard from our local pound. He was beautiful. We believed him to be about six or seven years old. We were kind of scared when we brought him home because he looked so scarey. He was due for exicution the week we bought him. He was wonderful with our kids and grandkids. He never acted agressive towards anyone who came to our house though he did jump at a guy who came and was peering over our fence. The devistating thing was that he literly hated other dogs. He gave no warning when he saw on he just shot out and ingaged in a fight. He was also very much afraid of loud noises. Terrified is probably the better discrition. Ond day when we were out of town the neighbors were shooting off guns and he jumped our fence to get away and hide on our front porch. The dog that lived on the other side of our street had come and barked at him through our fence lots of times. So when he saw the dog over at the park our shepard ran over and beat it up. Bit off one of it's toes. It was a little dog. The pound took him away and declared him a menace. They put him to sleep. We tried everything we could to get him back. 10k insurance policy, enclosure, 5k fine, each requirement we met they added a new one. Finaly we had them put him to sleep rather than have him terrified in a cage with hoses sprayed at him and barking dogs rending the air. I cry because I feel like we let him down and I'm mad at the city for punishing my dog just because he was a german shepard. Both dogs were lose that day and we'd called in repeatedly complaining about their dog harassing our dog through our fence.

I guess what I wanted to say is, "don't give up on your dog. People say they don't have feeling, but I know they do. I saw them in my dogs eyes the day I went in and said good by to him. Every dog, even the ones who need special love deserve a chance and sometimes second and thirds." My hats off to you and I applaud your choices. Keep us posted. Diane

Diane,

I am sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did as much as you could to help your dog. People don't always know where to turn to go beyond the normal channels. That is part of the reason I started this forum so people can learn from each other. I had a rescue that was afraid of her own shadow until I put her in flyball with the purpose of giving her something to do and socialize her to people and dogs. She was afraid of her doggie teammates for 3 years. With accupuncture and a good behavioral trainer she can walk past a dog without fear biting, encounter people on the trail and not bark and run backward:) , and complete many of the agility obstacles in my backyard that she used to be afraid of. I find that a trainer that is into the behavioral aspects of the dog-human bond is very beneficial in instances of identifying what triggers and how to address the issues underlying the problem.
