I just got my first dog in over 10 years & have been looking for good dog resources in lots of places.

I was looking for dog parks in my area & was surprised to find out there is only ONE in our entire state. If there are more, I can't find them. The one that exists is a 2 hour drive away from me so I thought I'd do some research about what it takes to establish a dog park closer to home.

If any of you have any experience with working with local authorities on this or similar subjects, I would love to hear from you. This is a fairly large city & there are lots of parks ... just no dog parks.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!:)

Good Luck to you on trying to get a dog park. There are petitions galore in my community trying to get an off leash area for dogs. It is taking forever to get nowhere.
It has to be approved by City council and the local Humane Society is against the idea because of the liability due to irresponsible owners bringing dogs not suitable to an offleash area.
I think if you can prove to the city and the SPCA in your area that you have in place a policing system and volunteers to take care of it, it might fly.
It is an uphill battle...but Good Luck

It's not going to be an easy transition ... but, it just might be worth the challenge in the end.
