Hi all, I have a 5month old male rotti who is my pride & joy. We live in the Perth hills in Western Australia & always looking to meet new friends. Would like to try schutzhund training 1 day.

Vicky,
Welcome!! Where is Wigan? I have a friend whose dogs were named Buster and Ellie. Both were rescues. Why do you call them your loonies?:)

Brunosmom,
Welcome!! I will look up some Schutzhund events in your area and put them on the calendar and let you know when they are up. It is a fast growing, yet little understood sport by the masses.

Hiya, Many people think the way you do mainly due to the negative coverage these dogs get. Schutzhund is just mainly temperament, obedience, protection and tracking trials.

That is very true. The media representations of certain breeds like Pitt Bulls, and Rottis create societal misconceptions that lead to legislation against an entire breed. I have a student who is doing a study of the ramifications of the media on people's perceptions of Pitt Bulls. She is also looking at the relationship between the nature of the breed and the role socialization plays. She has found in her research that a good dog of any breed can be turned into a "problem dog" intentionally or unitentionally by their owners. We must all help each other become as knowledgeable as possible about training methods, care, and behavior so that fewer dogs end up as "problem dogs.":)
