You are right, typical factless PETA lies. I loved the one picture of a dog I raised as a puppy. She is romping with another dog guide in a fenced yard in a country in Asia. Not a harness in sight.
My family has been raising puppies for a large dog guide school since 1991. We are in contact with some of the partners of the dogs we have raised. We know others that know the people their puppy went to. I am also active in a group that supports people with dog guides.
There are no better cared for or more loved dogs in the world. They are never in harness at home. Different schools do things differently, but I think most of them allow the partners to keep the retired dogs. To say the partners must return retired dogs is a flat out lie. Often the dogs live out their life as pampered pets with their former partner. If their partner can't keep them, they pass them on to friends or family. Otherwise, the school that trained the dog takes it back and finds a home for it, first offering it to the family that raised it as a puppy. I was even once sent by the school to pick up an old dog whose partner was dead and the family couldn't care for it.
PETA is a bunch of liers.

Assistance dogs are happier than the most pampered of pooches. Not only is their mind and body stimulated by requiring them to assist their owners in the day to day tasks (guiding, retrieving, performing skilled tasks, etc.), but they get to be with their 'pack leader' as much as possible, get to do, see and smell a variety of locals, and are some of the best kept animals on the planet. Now I know my pup would LOVE to be with me all day and would LOVE to have something to do besides wait around in a boring old house for me to come home. Even if the harness was left on them most of the day (which it is not), is it any different than a collar...no.
It just goes to show you that PETA is an organization that doesn't undertand the unique relationships people and animals have towards each other. If PETA had its way, no one would be allowed to own or house animals, even as pets.

I agree, service dogs have had so much training and time put into them...the dogs have an actual job and are mentally stimulated everyday because they have a job to do everyday...
I do not know much about PETA but making an article like that being the first one I have really sat down and read ...it is quite disturbing...saying that service dogs are abused...

PETA thinks every animal is abused bc they're being cared for by humans. Stupid PETA. They almost guilt-tripped me into being a vegetarian when I was young and impressionable. Now I enjoy my meat more and ignore everything they say.

It seems to me that Peta is against any animal giving positive benefits to a human, whether it be a pet or a working animal. There seems to be this lack of realisation that both humans and animals can benefit from what they are working against (heck, that even includes animal research).

Wow...thats all I pretty much have to say. I wonder if maybe they are sort of a real world troll. You know? Just out there because they WANT to cause arguements and disagree with the mainstream of things? I'm thinking thats what they are.lol.

I wonder if ''Animal Advocate'' is an accurate term to apply to PETA. I prefer kooks.

As someone in another forum put "Pampered Egotistical Tyrannical A____" ROFL (sorry I'm bad I know), hey I saw a petition that limits PETA and HSUS advisory role in government. Here it is: http://www.petpac.net/action/petitions/hsus_peta_do_not_represent_majority_of_americans

Those poor, poor, poor service dogs.
They are only bred for one purpose, and thats to be a 'tool' for blind people. Their breeders only breed for smarts and not for health, those poor poor service dogs, they suffer terrible genetic diseases because of the bad breeding practices. What terrible lives they lead.:p
ROFL!
