I have Casey's food and water bowls on a small mat on the floor.
If I put something in her bowl that she does not want to eat, instead of just walking away from the bowl, she will try to cover it up with the mat by pawing and pushing. She will not give up until the bowl is hidden.
This morning, after eating her favorite things (carrot chunks, boiled egg chunks, a little of the dry food) she still had some dry food left and started the routine. So I threw a towel over the bowl and she sniffed it a bit and finally walked away.
This is neurotic!
She cannot seem to sleep in her bed without stirring up all the blankets and layers and then plopping down on them. She hates a neat bed.
This is neurotic!
But I love her to pieces and she makes me laugh. Ever heard of alzheimer's in a 6 yr old dog? LOL

My toy poodle does the same thing with her food. She tries to cover it up with her nose, as if the floor were made of dirt or something. I love her to death but she IS a really strange little dog. She does all kinds of weird things.

Hey Carol,
That is really funny!! It seems like every dog has its crazy quirks doesn't it.
I have a chilhuahua or however you spell it that is always going down my shirt. It must be because hes so tiny. Hes never happy till he gets into my shirt. I didn't teach him that either its something he picked up on his own jsut like yours. Of course there is 6 of us in the family and my shirt is the only one that he goes down.. Don't understand that but I just got to love him.

My daxie girls try to bury un-eaten food when there's any left (daxie boy scoffs the lot usually!) and my daxie boy will bury his ball in the garden when he is fed up with fetch - crazy!

Recently I adopted Jake the 10 yr old JackaBea.
I already have Casey the 6 yr old Cocker Spaniel.
Casey is not a chewer so no toys or bones or anything chewy for her.
She is only interested in chew treats that she can crunch up quickly.
Well, lately she watches Jake chew for hours on his Kong which I sometimes stuff with goodies and his pigskin ears which he loves. She gets a little jealous I guess and tries to steal his chewee and take it to her bed.
She does not chew it but she wants to take it from him and hide it. They have had a couple of little tiffs over this habit. When the shoe is on the other foot, casey does not tolerate Jake taking anything of hers. But Jake is much more tolerant of her shenanigans.
She is a devil that girl......neurotic or what?

The behavior Casey is exhibiting isn't neurotic. When she moves the blanket around, she is actually creating a bed for herself. I realize the bed is already 'made' but in the wild, wolves and wild dogs don't have blankets so they will paw and scratch the ground and make themselves a comfortable place to lay down. They don't want to lay on sticks or rocks or bugs so they adjust the area.
I have a Sheltie/Aussie mix and she does the same thing. She will stand on one of the dog beds (no blankets) and paw the surface until she believes she has it 'just right'. It's comical to watch.
Casey is trying to cover the food bowl because she is 'saving' the food until later. Think of a dog with a bone. The dog values the bone so the dog buries it in the ground to retrieve it later. Your dog is exhibiting primal rituals of her ancestors and I say, let her do it unless she is dumping food all over the floor. If that is the case, pick the food bowl up when she starts 'covering' it up.

for some reason chihuahuas like to be covered up my chihuahua sleeps all the way under the covers by my feet. it is so funny to see her trying to get under the blankets I know she is thinking "if i only had hands". she also runs around like a crazy dog every time I let her out sideit doesn't matter if we just had a walk or she was out side 5 minuets ago she still runs around and jumps on everything

My toy poodle, Holly, likes to sleep under the covers at the bottom of the bed too. The funny thing is, if anybody touches her while she's under there, she growls and carries on like she's going to eat you up. Once you lift the covers off of her, she's fine. My husband and I always get a good laugh out of it!

My little pup likes to burrow too; a lot of the time I'll crawl into bed only to find him sprawled out on his back like a people. He seems to think he's a people any ways. :D

They dont really think they are people - we just think they do ;)
Sometimes I wonder if we dont 'humanise' our dogs just a little to much.
Just something I wonder about at times - specially when I see people carrying their dogs everywhere never letting them do anything dogs should do - makes me sad.

Luckily my dogs are 30 lbs each so
impossible for me to carry them around
very much....LOL
Cockers love to sleep on their backs and
bare all.
They are just so wiggly and happy all the time it
is hard not to spoil them rotten.
Jake is a lover and a kisser and is always carrying
around his kong or a tennis ball. If I do not have
time to play, he just tosses it in the air and plays
by himself.
They both make people smile everywhere we go.

I know; every time I take My dog for a walk, people will usually say hi to him before they say hi to me. Fortunately, Bandit loves the attention.

My 7 month old Rottweiler is hilarious. When she's playing with one of her toys and I try to get it from her to keep playing with her, she tries to block me from getting the toy she's playing with. She doesn't growl at me when she does it, she just tries to put her paws on my hand to keep me from getting her toy.
There are also times she does start growling and barking and I can't seem to figure out what she's growling and barking at. I never see anything that she could be doing that for. There are no other dogs or people around when she does it. If someone comes to the door, though, she does nothing....no barking or growling.
