Welcome Dan!!! Are the cats and dogs buddies? I have one cat that chases the dogs when they are training for agility and playing ball. The other cat tolerates them. But 4 border collies are a bit much for anyone let alone a cat that can run and be herded.:)

To answer your question yes the cats like the big dog she has been here a while The chihuahua on the other hand is new blood and our 7 month old kitten thinks he's a toy. Lala the bigger dog likes to help me repremand the cats (they are indoor cats) When they get out I have to Get them and bring them back in I'll set them on the floor and Lala will place her paw on them as if to say "Hey your not supposed to do that" then she will bark at them for a minute.

lol, made me chuckle. We're contemplating getting a cat, or rather a kitten as a full grown cat would quickly leave when faced with my lot!!

I just got a kitten we had 2 cats previously but a friend of ours brought us a kitten from the mountains He is a black and white cow kitten 6 months old Not nuetered and rather aggressive Like I said he is 6 mon old But almost the same size as our adult cats. He is rough with the other animals and doesn't seem to know how rough he is sometimes. Now dont get me wrong kittens are wonderful but be sure you have a lot of time to devote to the care of the new member (He/ She) will be a handfull.

Hi
Does anyone have any stories or advice on how you've gotten your dogs and cats to get along and become play buddies?
We have the 3 dogs, beagle, lab and mutt and the mutt and the cats have a lot of fun together...... they pick on each other, but you can see alot of love there too.
I have two cats, one calico and one siamese. The calico is strictly indoors and she is the one I'm having the most probs with. She's really friendly with me and my son, but doesn't really let other people too near to her. She did finally acclamate to the other cat, the Siamese (Gabby) ok, and has always gotten along fine with our mutt (Scruffy), but she's having a tough time with the lab and beagle.
Now, my siamese is bold and has done fine with all the dogs.
Any advice or stories would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Well the kids keep asking for a cat, My husband and I have always had cats and dogs living together, but when we met 15yrs ago neither of us had pets. We started a family and got our first dog (Pippin the Boxer) when daughter was 2 (we didn't think we could have any more kids) 4 years later along came our son so still no cat - as babies and cats don't mix! almost 2 years later we were blessed with a very prem baby girl so still no cat! We then adopted a very sad - badly treated Great Dane. He was 9 months old and needed a great deal of love and care. Still no cat. When my eldest girl was 7 we got her a dachshund (every child should have a pet!), when my son was 5 he got a dachshund - I also brought home her sister, so now up to 5 dogs, then my little girl at age 5 said "what about me?" So we got another dachshund. We've just moved house so the children suggested they would come quietly if I got them a kitten! My main worry is if a kitten would unbalance the whole situation - the dogs are well trained and do not wander (the garden is well fenced), but a kitten jumping over fences and perhaps leading my gang astray?
Put it this way the kids haven't completely convinced me.
Perhaps I should get them a trampoline and tell them NO KITTEN. After all I am pack leader!!!!

I have a 7-year-old grey tabby that I brought home at about 2-weeks; my local vet called me and asked me if I would take him. At the time I was living with my Dad on his farm and Dad just happened to have the sweetest German Shepherd (F) to ever exist. She decided to become my kitten's personal protector and until the day she died she protected her babies (the farm cats) no matter what came her way. My cat is very comfortable with my White Shepherd x and he is just now starting to tolerate my Mini Dachshund x that I got last August. I feel that if the cat is raised with the dog(s) then it should be just fine. I feel that I should also add that up until recently, my cat has only had experience with large, laid-back dogs. I think that he has been handling my high energy pup vary well.

My daughter has a cat that was bigger than any of the dogs when they were when they were pups. Her cat {pookie} taught them manners really fast!

I vote trampoline! Just kidding! I just couldn't imagine having a kitten with my two. When I was a kid we had a kitten who was very active. He attacked us and attacked our Rottie. The rott had a hard time as a pup since the kitten was there first. He thought he ruled the household. He did really. But as the Rott got older the tables turned. They were best buds.
