A month ago we aquired a rescue greyhound,he obviously had never been in a home as he was found wandering the streets, before going to the rescue centre. Over the month we have got him house trained, sorted his diet out etc
But one big problem is the jumping up when you come home, enter the room, obviously he is a tall dog, I know he is pleased to see us, but as anyone got any suggestions into curing this, we have tried shouting NO. ignoring him. but he as taken the skin off my back with his claws, head butted my son, ripped the paint & paper off.
Before his walks he bounces up & down, knocking you over until once he is on the lead he is a treat
Any help gratefully recieved ::

He needs to be taught the "off" command. "Down" is overused with dogs so he is confused.
I have a cocker who goes nuts also when I come home and she has been alone. I find by being calm and not making a big fuss at these times, it gets less chaotic.
Using the word "off" and gently putting the dog in the position you want it to be in will differentiate the command from others. He will get it soon after a few tries because he wants to please.
Thanks for rescuing one of these wonderful dogs.

I used to have the same problem with my WGS x. Every time he started to jump on me I would calmly put up my knee and firmly say "no". I now have a nice, calm dog who quietly greets everyone with a wagging tail and a lick.
