Welcome Skippygurl!
We love people who love their dogs as much as you do. They are loyal and we never forget them even after they have gone to the Rainbow Bridge.
Hope we see some photos soon of your best friend.

Welcome Skippygurl00!!! How is the breed perceived in Australia? Put some pics up and let us know what you all do together.

The breed has become extremely popular,I think its now the 4th popular dog in Australia.I think its because of their loyalty and love of children.
.My plan is in the near future to become a registered breeder,I hope to get lots of advice,I know heaps about animals as I was once a vet nurse but Im always willing to learn more.
So any info would be greatly appreciated!!

hi,
I breed dachshunds. In the uk we have breed standards is it the same in Australia? I get frustrated by people who have no respect for the breed and have pups for financial gain, they are responsible for ruining the breed. Bloodlines have to be carefully considered to avoid defects. In-breeding causes some nasty defects!
I love finding the perfect home for my pups. I've turned away lots of people because they just weren't quite right. It's the worst - yet best part of being a breeder.
The paper work is a pain!!! Sleepless nights. Then two weeks of worry as whole litters can be lost due to fading puppy syndrome. Then weaning, toilet training, weekly weigh-in's all of which are balanced by milky faces and chubby food filled tummies.
I love being a Mini Dachshund Breeder.
Join some dog clubs, find some local breeders- true dog lovers are always pleased to help- but beware some breeders will steer you in the wrong direction!

awwwww bless all them puppies bet you love everyone of them, but i agree with what you said regarding breeders just out for money when i was looking to get a gsd i saw alot of "breeders" who seemed to me that all they were doing was a production line of puppies , we went to some breeders and they would not allow us to see the parents, which i really wanted to see or at least the mum just to see what their temperment was like , and the cost of the dog always seemed too little for a gsd but they were breeding so much that as i said a production line. we eventually found a very good registered breeder that our vet recommended and now we have a big beautifull girl whose temperment is perfect and the breeder was excellent they even came to our house to do a home check which we thought was very good and i could not be happier with my new best friend and companion.

I've recently (past 10 years) only taken in pedigrees to live with my family. I have only used breeders I know and trust. I once went to view some dachshund pups at an unknown breeder. I was after a bitch, they only had dogs but my husband said "go anyway". The pups looked okay, I saw both parents but I mentioned to her that I really wanted a bitch, suddenly she rushed off and brought out a pup, it was a bitch but most definately not a dachshund. She told me she'd been saving it for someone else but if I gave her an extra £100 I could take it home there and then. I said I'd have to go to the atm and would be back later. I got in the car, went home and phoned my trusted dachshund breeder, she put me on a waiting list and 2 years later I got my dachshund bitch. Imagine if I'd never seen a dachshund puppy before and didn't know the difference!! I bet loads of people have been conned into buying what they thought was a pedigree only to end up with a who knows what!
I've had many cross bred dogs over the years and have only had pedigrees since having children (worried about aggresive dogs)- trace the bloodline and use someone who isn't kennel blind!

thanks for all the advice,I appreciate it.
I have been around dogs all my life,Im not an amature,I dont want to become a breeder as some do for finanical gain.I know a true breeder doesnt really gain finanically (after the vet bills, food and anything else they might need).I am aware its all about improving the breed. It drives me nuts when I read ads from people selling "staffies",which are american cross english staffies.people buying their pups have no idea these are two different breeds and are paying pedigree prices.I dont want my beloved breed to be mongrelised(is that even a word?lol)
I love dogs and I will be doing what other breeders here are doing and for the same reasons to improve the breed and especially FOR LOVE

Good on you!!! My last pup is going to his new home tomorrow. His new parents were getting everything ready this week. They're so excited. I occasionally get photo's of pups from previous litters, but I still miss them all. I'ts wierd to see them all grown up as I remember what they looked like as babies.
