Wow! Must be great fun!
Welcome to the site. Thank you Carol. Yes it was great fun. All pups have good homes now and the puppy factory has been shut down. She had 2 litters in her 6years. 12 pups total, all healthy & smart. Now I have to control her diet more, she was getting fat as a butterball after the surgery, eating his food too. He (Franko) put up with it for a little while, but one day the ole man had ,had enough of that. 2 sharp barks and a couple grunts at her, took care of that. Now she waits patiently till he finishes his bowl before even attempting to go to her bowl. I then pick up his leftovers if any, and all is well. These 2 are my constant companions and go everywhere with me, even to work. If there is a place they are not welcome here in rural Texas, then I'm not either. They have the local Game Warden trained to bring them fresh venison right to the door. LOL ,I have 2 freezers just for their groceries. People have said to me, if there is such a thing as reincarnation, they want to come back as my dogs. I say , if you come back as intelligent, well behaved, and dont bark unless somebody is coming over the back fence and not thru the gate, as these 2 buddies of mine, then you'd be welcome.
They are trained to "alert" with a 2 part command and that can be turned on/off in a heartbeat. When a stranger approaches, they look at me for a reaction first, if I say OK, the stranger is greeted with licks & kisses, but if I raise both hands and utter "watch him", its a whole different ballgame, the display of teeth and growls will stop anyone in their tracks. I can park anywhere and leave the keys in the ignition, with no fear of anyone stealing my truck, Franko always gets behind the wheel, like he wants to drive, but I dont let him ,because he doesnt have a license. Welcome Frank12!! You have quite a family there. Do the kids get in on the training? There are quite a few kids doing flyball and agility. 4-H clubs have dog projects too. You should be very proud of such a family.:)

Absolutely get the kids involved. My use the dogs for projects all the time. Like how a dog learns etc. It is not only good for the kids but also is very informative for the public. Their science board get put up in vet offices and other professional buildings. One of my kids visits the long term care home I work for and she always takes a dog. She have been trained and tested of course but the residents love it. Just plain good for all. Pet Therapy Dogs is a whole conversation in itself... Cant recommend it enough. Anyway have fun....
