Spencer, my 5 month old Papillion, has had 3 episodes of "dizzyness". This lasts for quite a long time. The first time it happened it was later at night and I was quite concerned but past it off as him being tired. His symptoms are ...when you look at him he starts swaying his head like he is high on something. when he trys to walk he staggers and falls over. The 3rd time it happened his eyes were even alittle hazy so I took him to the vet. I spent 398 hundred dollars in tests to find nothing wrong. They checked everything from the neck down. His liver is functioning normally, his blood sugars are perfect. They thought he was a little dehidrated but other than that he is growing perfectly, 1.5lbs in 1month. Now they suspect something in the brain. Whether it be water that isn't draining or what...Now he wants to do a brain scan. Hasn't anyone heard of this? I don't want to give up my baby but this could be serious. This is the first time i have had a purebread dog and I was told this can happen?? Any suggestions would be great. His last episode was 3 days ago.

So sorry to hear of your pup's distress.
I hear of seizures in puppies quite a lot lately because I belong to a few websites for pets.
It is so sad and it must cause the vets great frustration dealing with these unusual conditons.
I think small dogs have their own unique conditions and they are a challenge even for the most experienced owners or vets.
Good Luck in your quest for the best care for your furbaby.
I hope he is feeling better soon and they come up with a treatment and cure.

Sorry about your baby. I have never dealt with that but I just wanted you to know that your sweetie is very precious and I wish you luck finding out the problem. Please keep us posted as you go.

I am happy to report that so far Spencer is doing well. He has got ALL of his puppy exercise back and had a bath the yesterday so he even smells good. We are going to wait it out and see what happens with him. Tomorrow I am faxing the bill to Petland so lets see if they are true to their word. They said they would pay for all the tests. It is a part of their "guarantee" so I will keep you all posted how they handle the situation now that we haven't found anything wrong and we spent $400.00 so far. I will keep all posted.

Can you contact the breeder? I always supply my pups with a puppy contract and am always contactable should they have any problems, although the only one that did have problems was due to the new owner over feeding!

What type of heartworm preventative is he on? I have a friend that was using a certain brand and it was causing head tremors, she contacted the company and sure enough that was it, it always occured within a week of his monthly treatment....just a suggestion...
