My next-door neighbor used to own a puppy store and got shut down for selling sick dogs. That was two years ago. Ever since, he has still been going out of state to get whole batches of puppies and houses them in his backyard shed. For sale. No health certs, no AKC papers although they are always advertised as such. Home raised my arse! The last batch of beagles he sold was not good. A man had to put his little lemon beagle down. Viral Meningitis I think. He's not sure. That man came here a couple weeks ago and asked me all sortsa questions about my neighbor who wasn't home at the time and we've kept in touch since. Finally - the man with the dead dog, his vet, and I are all going to Animal Control next week to see if we can shut this operation down! I am elated on one hand that someone's actually gonna help me stop this but also scared to crap for my own dogs. I have to live here. If my neighbor finds out I am part of this effort to take away his only visible means of income...not gonna be pretty. Gonna try to keep my name out of it and have requested they subpoena me if it goes to court. Have spent today bleaching crates and floors, etc even though I doubt if my dogs are close enough to his mill-puppies to have a harmful effect. I know I've had a really rough year for fleas probably because of his mill pups. argh!

Hopefully the complaint from the puppy buyer and an inspection will be more than enough to slow him down for awhile.

You go girl!!!! People like that are disgusting.
I would file something with the police for sure, just to let them know what the deal is. If something does happen then there would be problable cause...I would almost say invest in some cameras...for survaliance. People who have that kinda morality, are likely to do anything.
Keep us updated on this, I really want to know if they get shut down.

We all three went to Animal Control today and they took all the info the man had on the dead puppy. His vet had told him if he had all the money Donald Trump has to fix that dog, it would probably still die. Possible hydroencephalitus??? Menengitis??? Poor puppy was a mess with something growing out of the top of her little head. Dead within 2 weeks of adoption. He also found a database the man was touting for certified purebreds which (just by coincidence) he owns at a whopping $25 per registration fee! OMG is that man (the one with the dead puppy) out for blood! He had a stack of paperwork he found out about my neighbor! Animal Control did not ask my name so I am not to be involved as yet. Phew! At least it seems something WILL be done. The owner promised to keep me informed.

It's good you can help shut this guy down without his knowledge that his neighbor is involved. He obviously doesn't have any good feelings for animals and would have no problem going after yours for revenge. I hope Animal control takes him to court and the judge throws the book at him. What a dirtball.
Those poor puppies being breed with birth defects and lethal health problems; this man is a real monster. With any luck, he'll have to move away when he has no more easy money to pay rent or make house payments. (and hopefully a huge fine and court fees):D

There is sooo much more that I cannot tell you but it makes me sick to my stomach. Some I have suspected for awhile. Too many little boys hanging around. Believe it or not, the dog thing is minor compared to the whole picture. Owner of dead dog and I opened a huge freaking OMG wasp-nest for sure. This is bad.

Like Shara said, I would invest in some cameras. You can get inexpensive versions that just run directly to your computer. If you notice odd behaviours like children being lured to the property or abuses of any nature document the time and date and what you saw in a journal. This type of passive investigation is invaluable to the police if or hopefully WHEN this creep is held accountable. If you are friendly with any of your other neighbours, perhaps ask them if they have noticed anything.
Sometimes taking a stand against the criminals among us is scary, but if we don't stand up for what is right then what does that say about our social responsibility. I applaud you for your efforts.

Get him! I hope he gets fined for every animal he has, and I hope he gets a lengthy jail sentence. Poor pups, and little boys. When it rains, it pours.

Cops and Animal Control there this afternoon. I am unable to find out if they got puppies but I do know the shed was wide open with the light on when I got home. There was a little boy there at the time but he went down the street while all this was taking place - according to my other neighbor. From what I understand neighbor got a piece of paper from the cops - probably a citation for selling pups without health certs. Nothing to lock the man up but it's a start. Man who lost his puppy out for blood so I suspect this will go on.

The man who lost his puppy is understandably upset, but did he do any investigation into the breeder (ahem puppymiller) prior to putting down his hard earned cash for the puppy? Methinks not! Educating this person and persons like him would also be a step in the right direction because puppymillers are only in business because people continue to purchase puppies from retails stores, from backyard breeders and without much (if any) investigation as to the quality of dog or care the animal comes from. Hopefully this guy who is so 'out for blood' learned his lesson and rescues a puppy/dog or only purchases from breeders he has investigated thoroughly.
Keep us informed as to what happened or continues to happen with this puppymiller.
Thanks,
Furbs

Sometimes that's the only way ppl learn; by getting a sick pup. I thought shelters really cared and did a good job with their animals until I got Cerb. Now I know to really investigate the next place I get a dog from.
I hope that man shuts down his business soon.

Trust me Furbs - I did him an edumecation for sure! He has already replaced the pooch with one from rescue...a beagle/coon hound mix. He sure loves his hounds! He wasn't at all intested in the cockers I showed him.
Definitely educated now. :o I can get on a soapbox too ya know!

We have one in our area that is so bad it's like a puppy mill. They rescue puppies, then house them in fenced in areas with no floors, just dirt. So when they would use the hose to fill the buckets all you would have is mud. The shelter I am at now had run ins with those people and will not take any of there dogs, because on many occasions puppies they saved would die and take out more with them. They also will not set up booths or anything next to them. They say the disease there just runs rampid.

Good to know that he has learned his lesson. Hopefully he will pass his experience on and others will learn from his mistakes.
