We are considering showing Roxy in the spring in a show strictly for White German Shepherds. She is 6 months old now and growing into a fine dog. She is attending obedience classes at present.

We have never participated in conformation and know nothing about it, so any advice would be appreciated.

Every one has to start somewhere, right?

Don't know much about conformation shows myself, I know a few members here might have some pointers though! Only advice I can give is that you see if there are other breeders/handlers that are willing to mentor you in your area, the best kind of help you can get is face-to-face one-on-one:p

I assume you are showing in UKC?? Anyways I would go to a show without your dog and watch. Also I would talk to other German shepherd exhibitors most people at the shows are very friendly and willing to help out a newbie. Its hard to explain how to exhibit a dog without being there to show you what to do. Do you know how to stack her and does she know how to freestack? those are 2 things you will need to know how to do. Is she used to strangers touching her, you definitly want to get her used to being touched while someone she doesnt know goes over her body. Also she will need to behave around dogs she doesnt know. That is actually a pet peeve of mine, I have been at shows were dogs have barked uncotrolably when a person or dog walked by. It is very distracting to have a dog bark at your dog when you are trying to focus!

Your dog is beautiful I bet she will do well in the ring! Good luck!!
