Me and Blitz work really good together and he is a very quick learner. The prolem is leaving the house, off the lead he will follow me out the door no problem, just like he follows me everywere else, but as soon as i put a lead on him he feezes or starts strugling when i try to get him to move. Ive tried tempting him with treats but he just will not budge. Ive picked him up and taken him outside but still his feet stuck firm. When I took him to a friends tho, I put him down in the lift and he was sniffing around fine but when the doors opened yet again he budge an inch!
Please someone help coz I feel so sorry for him, he really does look scared

Bless Blitz is only a wee baby and realy should not be walking in the streets until he is vaccinated fully. so if going out carry him every where so he will get used to noises and big new things. to get him used to the lead put it on when in the house and let him walk around with it trailing on the floor, once he will go around the house and garden with it trailing then pick it up and follow him without poulling on the lead. when again he will walk happily in house and garden then you can start to walk occasionally in different direction to him and reward with praise and strokes and even treats or play when he follow. if you do this daily until Blitz has had his final vaccination he should be more happy to go out side.

I think he's just nervous i know how you feel. like dobetaztic said, let him walk around the house. Also, mine was 4 months old when we finally got him to walk on a lead outside!

i dont think that your dog should be 4 months old to learn to walk on a leash . use a Clicker and teach her to walk on a leash !!

i dont think a dog of that age shoulld be allowed on the ground or near other dogs till its been vaccinated ,do u know we carry the parvo virus on our shoes ,which then even comes into out homes on our floors,i think you need to learn more about having a dog,u r risking its health by putting it on the ground when its not vaccinated ,you shouldnt even allow people to wear shoes in the house till he is totally vaccinated any vet will tell u this

Unregistered and Blitz, welcome to the forum.
Some very good advice given for a very common reaction from a puppy that age.
Give your little puppy a little more time. I used the method of keeping a leash on at all times in the house with Casey when I first got her last year. We bonded quickly. as they say, "attached at the hip"
She was 5 but did not communicate when she wanted to go potty. The leash I used was very long and just followed her everywhere. I used to attach it to the doorknob and open the door and she would go outside and back in when she wanted to. In the summer, my door is open a lot and I am scared of her getting out and being hit by a car. This leash is the most valuable accessory I have.

When we first got our white shepherd cross he attatched himself to my then-2-year-old son. I just kept the leash on him whenever we were outside and my son just naturally held onto it. P.J. got used to feeling it on him all the time and got used to having some one on the other end of it. P.J. is now 3 and the best walking companion on and off leash, but he still prefers to have my son be his walker. Which kind of works out as I'm busy trying to train my bull-headed Miniature dachshund cross to walk 1/2 as well as his big brother.

Your pup is a bit too young to be out and about. But using the leash in the house is a great idea. He will learn alot from this until your baby can get a couple more shot in. Be patient it will work out. It usually doesn't take long for pups to get used to leashes. Small treats are wonderful when teaching anything. Oh what dogs won't do for a treat.
I don't see what the problem is with having a 4 month old dog learn to walk on a leash. My puppy started recieving the parvo vaccines the week I got her and has been done with them for two weeks.
My advice is to attach the lead to the pup and just let it drag it around the house until it is used to it.

Your pup is too young for this type of training. Your puppy 'freezes' because it is stressed. When a dog freezes, this, believe it or not, is the dog going into what is called 'shock'. The dog isn't in danger so don't worry.
What you want to do is tether your little one to you with a long lead and teach it to follow you everywhere you go. When you can't watch your puppy, it needs to be in a crate. You have plenty of time to train your baby so be patient.
