We had just lost our old freind of 15 years he was a Good Dog but we had got use to him doing what a old dog does sleep and eat. Now have a new 17 week old Border Collie, wow what a biffrence he is VERY smart and VERY busy! Any tips on how to raise a pup after being use to the old guy? :eek

Obedience training for this intelligent guy is mandatory and keeping him busy so he will settle down at night is a must.
These dogs are excellent for agility and flyball or they will herd your kids or cats or anything LOL.
They are wonderful, but very active and if brains are not stimulated, likely a waste of a good dog. They love long hikes and likely would follow you if you attached their leash to a bike.
Good Luck with this amazing dog. Hope you are taking your vitamins LOL

Yes we are keeping him busy. He is sure a smarty little thing,it is so cool to look into his eyes and see his brain working. he has a lot of toys and is learning tricks as fast as we can teach him. He is sleeping all night and doing good with potty training. I started to try to teach him freezby. We have a big back yard and he loves the snow!!:)

I taught my boxer to run along side my bike, she's too old for that now so we stick to a brisk 3 mile walk. Dogs get physically tired quicker if they are mentally active. Scent training gives them a good physical and mental exercise, plus heel work - this is good for training pups as it gets their attention on to you at all times.

The bike thing is great. Thats how I exercize my malamute she love it and its good for me too. Even just teaching a good game of fetch in the back yard can do wonders. Have fun.
