My dog has been turning her nose up at dog food since the middle of last week. We have tried changing her food and she will eat the new food once, but refuse it the next time. She is also breathing quickly.

She has been to the vet three times since Saturday. She has had blood work which turned up fine. They couldn't find anything wrong with her, up until yesterday when they were handling her hind legs. She didn't seem to like it that much so she has been given anti-inflammatory injections. When we brought her home, she ate the food she turned away that morning, so we assumed it worked. They think the rapid breathing is from pain, and that it should go away once the injections kick in.

She won't eat her dog food again today. I fed her some chicken and rice (the vet recommended this if she wouldn't eat anything else) which she enjoyed.

She is getting more meds once a day, but if this doesn't work she may have to have a chest scan. They tried to do it yesterday but she wouldn't stay still for it, and it was too late in the day to sedate her.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?

From my experience it look me like Tonsillitis inflamation of tonsil.
It happens on cold time this part of the year I suppose you take your dog to walk sometimes after rain or on cold wether.

-It look very bad, but do not worry !!!
Therapy: best choice is to take him to the vet.
-Lincocyn intramuscular depending of weight not less than 7 days
-Cortisone intramuscular depending of weight not less than 7 days
-vitamines AD3E high dosage
-get Povidon iodine and his tonsil 3 times a day - open mouth in this way press his lips onto dents and spray deep into pharynx
-give him instead wather warm camomile tea to drink if he do not want take syringe and give him to drink but not directly into mounth, but buy the chest on the side of one chest.

this therapy injections must give vet, but everything else is in your hands!!

REMMEMBER NOT LESS THAN 7 DAYS !!!

Thank you for the reply!

Would the vet have felt the tonsilitis? She spent a great deal of time feeling around her jaw, down her neck, and around her chest.

Good news though, I was in the kitchen and I pulled the canned food out of the fridge (we were feeding her kibble but she won't touch it anymore) and let her sniff it, and she seemed interested. I managed to get her to eat 3/4 of the can! :D
