I have been seeing the Furminator deShedding Tool on the shelves of all the pet stores in the last few months. So last night, I decided to buy it and give everyone a review of what I thought. It is pricey which is why I though I would provide my opinions so people know whether or not it is worth the $39US to 59US dependent on the width of the deShedder.
Well, it worked very well on all 4 border collies. I have one with an undercoat like Sammoyeds. I have one with a longer coat but not much under coat and 2 with thicker, short hair. I got more out of each dog in about 5 monutes that any other brush I have tried. However, you must brush them in an area where the hair can fall and accumulate because it just gets it out it does not collect it. I tried it on both cats with different types of coat and it worked well. I do believe for me this was well worth the $49US. I can honestly say that I believe that I will have much less hair all over the house using this tool weekly. If you have tried it please let others know what you think because what is effective in my situation, may not work in another.

I have tried this grooming tool on both dogs and cats. It does work on some coats but I find that it can pull out a lot of the coat down to the skin. This was mostly on cats. I use it very little in grooming. But for home users it may be the answer for deshedding your pet easily.

This looks like an amazing tool to use on a cocker spaniel with that undercoat she has. I use a wire thing on a handle but it is a lot of hard work to get it all. This looks very efficient.
Wow! Have to find one of those here.
I watched the videos for cat and dog..I am impressed.

I am thinking about purchasing these deshedding tools as well for the Labs. I am curious if any others have used it? Very concerned about the above post with the coat being pulled out to the skin...any other input?

I have been asking some groomers about the tool. If used too hard on any coat it does not pull but actually cut off the hair. If used properly - which would be the key- it is very good. My recommendation is to ask your local groomer how to use it and under what conditions.

I have 3 cats and 2 dogs and I love my furminator. I have had no hairballs from any cats since I started using it. That's a big improvement from at least one every other day or so. I am very pleased, it was well worth the money. You obvioulsy have to use it correctly, you can't yank on the hair, you have to be gentle. I've had no problems with it.

That is good to know. I will have to check it out. I have little fur balls that gather in the corner of my living room and kitchen. I just vaccuum my little heart out only to have them return in a couple days. Sometimes I vaccuum the dogs. Bella seems to like it. She jumps all around when the vaccuum comes out.

I just got one of these and I LOVE it. Our 85lb newf puppy sheds like a chemo patient and it really became a necessity to find a good deshedding tool. Here is what it took off the first time I used it:

I could have gotten more, but after about half an hour she got bored and wouldn't sit still. I use it on her once a week and it has cut down on the shedding tremendously (probably 90% or more). I also use it on my ferrets, which are heavy shedders, and it has completely eliminated their shedding.

Well I could certainly use one of those. I get furballs almost as big as the one in the pic every few days (in various corners of the house). Hair flies off and accumulates into whatever corner or hideaway it can find.
Any idea where I could find one - besides online?

Maybe at PetSmart or somewhere? I got mine from Value Pet Supplies, via Amazon.com

You can get them at petsmart for sure, I've seen them and considered one for our Aussie/heeler mix. They also have the shampoo which I use and LOVE!!!

I love my furmanator. I only go over one spot once or twice, but the airforce I use at my work (grooming shop) gets most out.
it's worth the price!!! :D
