This is an interesting idea - they are looking at supply and demand to try to help find a home for dogs that might otherwise be destroyed:

Program transports unwanted dogs to shelters where demand is high

As part of a program sponsored by PetSmart Charities, dogs are being transported in a specially equipped Rescue Waggin' from a shelter in Maryland to one in Rhode Island - a trip of more than 400 miles.

The goal of the effort is to give the dogs an opportunity to be adopted, something that might not have happened at the Maryland facility.

This was the first of what is expected to be several trips a year to the Rhode Island shelter for the Waggin', which has more than 40 heated and air-conditioned cages inside to keep the dogs comfortable during their eight-hour trip...
