My dog is not normally a barker. She will every once in awhile, but not very often. I do want her to bark when someone is at the door, though. Does anyone know how I can get her to do that? She's a 9 month old Rottweiler.

Be glad that your dog isn't a barker, otherwise they will bark at things that are ACCROSS the street. Some dogs bark when they hear the TV. You should be thankful. Right now we have a dog that barks in the middle of the night, just to wake us up.

But as for your wishes, have you tried getting the dog into a protection service? Have you attempted to have it pass the good citizen test?

Sometimes, dogs who bark very rarely can be the most dangerous when scared or threatened. And in protection service training, the dog and handler is threatened by trained professionals. If you would like more information about protection service training, PM me or request it here.

lol, i would have to say no barking is a good thing. Mabe try teaching it speek. Find a nice hand signal, then say speek and then bark (yourself), and keep doing it and the barking of you should make her/him want to do it too. Then when your pup does, praise with love and posibly treats. Then you could have you dog by the door, and someone outside, noke or ring the bell. tell your dog to speek right after and then praise. Hopefully he/she will understand.
i danno...good luck.lol
