Hi all can anyone please help me. We have a 2 year old dobi cross fox terrier from a rescue home. We've only had her a fortnight but she is developing seperation anxiety. I only have to nip out for 5 minutes at a time and on my return theres puddles of urine in the house. I appreciate she's still settling in but i'm just trying to teach her good behaviour from the off. She is house trained and there is not a problem while i'm at home.

Have you considered crate training? If done properly, the crate is like a child's favorite toy or blanket that made them feel secure. It takes time but even under the most stressful and unfamilar circumstances my needy rescue can stay in hotel rooms, etc w/o freaking. There are some books on crate training on the dogwise website. There also books on shy dogs and separation anxiety.

Thanks for the tips guys. I dont think we'll be going with rubbing her nose in it tho coz i dont think i would like that done to me. I guess its just going to take a bit of time. We are trying with the crate method and I think its working and if I do need to nip out I just try to give her something to do while I'm gone such as play with toys or hide a titbit. Its slow progress though

Its slow progress though I know it sounds mean but it has worked for years. There are things we all do to our dogs that we wouldn't want done to us. Can you imagine being in a crate or eating off the floor. Or worst yet getting your glands cleaned. It's a dog!!
