I noticed this morning my gizzy has a pimple on her chin. it looks like the same kind humans get. I don't know if I should take her to the vet (she's in heat) or what I can do at home for her. Is this something serious, or will she outgrow it? any ideas?

thanks.

My dog had one before, it was just an ingrown hair. Do you have pictures you could show us?

I'd like to see pics if they are available as well. Tira has had 2 ingrown hairs that looked like acne/pimples whatever...but a third one was like 3 or 4 hairs in the same area and looked like a small crater for about a week. At the time we didn't have any money for a vet visit so we put alcohol on it to dry it out and antibiotics to keep it from getting infected. It has healed up nicely and is getting normal, good hair growth now.

I can see why it would worry some people when (or if) it gets that bad. It could be an allergic reaction as well. If you notice more than one and they are on the chin, she may be allergic to the bowls she's eating and drinking from. Some dogs can only drink from stainless steel bowls.

I'll try and get a pic soon for you guys. it looks like a whitehead pimple. there is only the one, on her chin and it doesn't seem to be bothering her. I am going over to stainless bowls this weekend.

If it's an allergy it should clear up pretty quickly (assuming she's allergic to whatever type bowls you're using now). It may just be an ingrown hair, but either way the stainless steel bowls are a good investment. Easier to clean and stay cleaner longer.

my dobies get pink pimples quite regularily on their chins the vet said it was due to moisture from the mouth and gave me hibiscrub to wash the chin with diluted with warm water and they go within days you can get hibiscrub from the pharmacy so you could try that.
