Hi,
I'm new to this and I'm a new owner of a Newfoundland, Golden Retriever mix. He's four months old, and he recently completed his vaccination program. I'm worried about a lump that I discovered in the area where he received one of his two needles. This could be a long shot, but could it be a reaction to the rabies vaccination being that it was his first one? I'd really appreciate an answer as soon as possible. He's not due at the vet for another two months to be neutered, but if it's something I should take seriously I'd like to make an appointment asap. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

I think most dogs can have a reaction to vaccinations. Infact they may even have swelling at the injection site. You can always make a quick call to the vet and ask if it should be a concern. How long ago was the vaccine?

Welcome to the site..

Mine had that happen too. You should watch it and if stays same when go back for vaccination show the vet. Or even call and see what their policy is on such incidents.

Im with K9maina call the Vet . But All my hound pups get that some more than others. dont rub on it, If it is really big Take the dog to the Vet. If its small kinda staying the same size and it moves around under the skin Id say its the Vaccine, Its just slowly entrering the dogs system It happens. Dont allow your dog to itch or scratch there. It should go down within 2 to 3 weeks after the shot was administered. Let us know how it turns out Im sure your dog will be fine. But yes Id treat it like its important Cant Hurt!! best of luck to you both.

My baby Dachshund did that with her rabies, then we got her leptospirosis vaccine, and her whole shoulder/armpit swelled up. We had to take her back in to get an anti-inflamatory injection. Talk to your vet to see what they say.
