I have just adopted a beautiful female pit/bullmastiff mix. She is just shy of 6 months old. When I went to pick her up from her previous owners I asked lots of questions, of course the first and most important being " is she house broken?". The woman said "yes, but she does not like to go on a leash", wich was great because our previous dog just ran out the back door and did her business and came back in. Well, we get her home and each time we let her out all she does is pee and then when waking up in the a.m. we find poop in our daughters room. This has been going on for the past week and 1/2. She will NOT poop outside. She has only gone 2-3 times outside. I was thinking maybe she just need more time out there, NO I stood out in the rain for 45mins in the rain and again she only went pee once. PLEASE HELP!!!!! I love her so much and so does our family, but I cant allow this dog ruin our home and I don't wanna start resenting her. Any advise you have I would really appreciate it!!!

Next time she poo's, I'd swipe it up and carry it outside where you want here to do her business. My dogs have a rough time going in places that are new to them. Placing the poo (which is super gross I know) will allow her to find "her area" next time she is outside. If it helps my go "poo" after breakfast and after dinner...usually about half an hour to an hour after eating. It gets so tiring waiting for them to do their business sometimes. If she's gone once in the house...she will continue to go in that area if you have not used a cleanser specifically made for pet odors...So make sure you do that as well. Hopefully, she understand the poo outside means she needs to go out and the cleaning up inside will remove residual odor that leads her to believe the bedroom is the place to go.

I don't know if I am replying correctly but, OMG, that is a great idea!!! Next time, wich I hope there isn't a next time, but I am definately gonna try that. When she goes outside all she does is sniff around, she must be trying to find her sent. Plus we had to put our old dog to sleep and that was less than six months ago so she may not be comfortably going in the backyard. I don't mind walking her but that doesn't seem to work either and there really isn't a good spot for her to go either. Thanx for your quick response!!! Any other advise would be much appreciated, in case that doesn't work.

I doubt that this is the problem with your pup, but as you said any advice is appreciated.. Noodle won't poop if someone is looking at him. Our backs have to be to him completely for him to poop, or he'll hold it until we leave the house and leave us a nice present right by the door. (ever seen a preggers mopping a CARPET? hahaha) Maybe that's the same thing with your pup? She might be uncomfortable being watched.

:) Noodle sounds like a real character! My dogs look embarrassed but they stil go about their business. The worst part is when your on a road trip and they take forever to go!

lol, oh yes, or when you're out in public, and you're hoping for them to just find a spot and poop before anybody comes out, so no one has to watch you pooperscoopin'..and as soon as he crouches down to go, somebody walks outside.. and he stands right back up..orrr if he's already going and walks out, and the person witnesses you pooperscoop.. oh noodles is a silly one.

And also, if you're looking for a good pet odor remover...the Dollar Store sells a fantastic 'urine be gone' solution, that we use on both urine areas, and poopy areas (after i mop the carpet with water and pine sol of course) and he really stopped having accidents inside as much when we got rid of his smell..

I'm lucky in that sense since we have a backyard with a huge privacy fence...but I have had to pick up at rest stops and in petsmart...that was the most embarrassing of all. My cute little Bell decided she just couldnt wait and went down almost half an isle of petsmart. She wouldnt be still. That would have been easier! Worst part was it was the smelliest thing of all and I think the entire petsmart smelled after that! That was sooo embarrassing. I had to ask for a whole roll of paper towels to clean up after her.

LOL! Noodle has never had a poopy in a store yet, but I think that's cause he's embarassed..but he will pee all over EVERYTHING..if you let him. silly marking..he's such a man.

:) he sounds like it. Hides the poo but not afraid to pee. I am not sure what the difference is but they're just too funny sometimes. Gunner doesn't do the marking thing so much but then again he still pees like a girl. He squats instead of lifting his leg. That's a real sight b/c his tail sticks straight up in the air when he does it. Maybe he's to embarrassed to mark b/c he doesn't pee like a real man. LOL!

My DaVinci will still go on the floor sometimes. I find that he does better on a leash. I have him go around in circles and tell him to go potty. He has to focus on going to be-able to move to what he wants to sniff and see. Also if you know when your dog has to go. DaVinci's last poop of the evening is at 7:00. This helps at getting them outside.

We had the same problem with our beagle/bichon. What finally ended up working is giving her a treat every single time she went potty outside along with a huge amount of praise "good girl. poopies outside!!". It took about 2 weeks but did the trick.

Just another idea for you to toss around.

what might help also is crating her at night until she gets the idea that poo goes outside along with pee. I have a pit X that did the same thing, we started crating him at night because he wouldn't go poop or pee where he slept, so he had to hold it until morning, by morning, whats the first thing YOU do, you go pee, he will have to pee as well as poop, so my guess is, that after a couple weeks of this, she will get the general idea. Just make sure that when you get up, the first thing you do is let the dog out of the crate, grab them by the collar and tell them go outside? or what ever phrase you use to let them know that its time to go pottie and hustle them right out the door to do their business. It took a little over 3 weeks before we started leaving him out overnight, but by that time,he got the general idea,

LOL..Toto is just starting to lift his leg, and its too funny, because sometimes he'll lift it, but just get all fumbled up in his legs and then embarassingly put his leg down without releasing a squirt.
We'll say "Never mind" like the Gilda Radner character Roseanne, Rosannadanna From SNL. Poop in the Petstore!!! Oh My!! Toto hasn't done that yet, but he did have the worse case of gas when he was in Puppy Kindergarten at PetSmart, and when he let one go, it smelled just GoshAwful!!! The class would come to a standstill, and everyone's eyes would burn. (ok maybe not that bad, but it was beyond embarrasing)

It's really funny the amount of embarrassment we go through for these guys!
