This is really quite weird because I had a customer complain (for the first time) about this only last week!
As Ive never seen this on one of my grooming dogs before I could only give you the same explanation as I gave her.
It could possibly be clipper irritation. When a groomer clips the "hygeine" area of a dog, they use a close blade. This is done to keep the area hair free and clean.
Some dogs have really sensitive skin and by the clipper gliding over the skin it can irritate it.
Now, there is another possibility which I doubt. Clipper burn. Clipper burn is when the blade is left going for too long and it gets red hot. As the blade touches the skin it burns it. As I said, I doubt it would be clipper burn as the area you mentioned isnt large enough to require that particular blade to be on long enough to heat up.
See if you can get some oatmeal cream (non toxic) and gently rub it on her affected areas, try to keep her from licking as this will only irritate the skin more. If it doesnt clear up within a few days maybe go see the vet. But honestly it really isnt anything to worry about okay.
Good luck.

I agree, but How messy was your dog when you brought her in? Was she extremly matted or soiled in those areas? Clipper burn is not only from hot blades but from cutting close on really dirty skin. If she was really messy when she went in this may be the reason too. I would do as danni says and find some soothing cream that is safe for dogs and apply for a few days and it should clear. If not I would visit the vet. You may call the groomer and nicley ask her if she could think of any reason why your dog would be extra itchy and sensitive around that area... maybe something happend and the groomer slipped up and forgot to tell you. Just a thought, Good luck keep us updated!

Thanks very much for you time ladies! She was not dirty as i could see, but she had a LOT of fur! She is part wheaton terrier i think and i tries to keep her brushed but there were a couple small matts. i gave her a bath about 2 days before i brought her in. She is a little swolen but was not when i brought her home, so i think that is from her licking herself.

If she's already swollen from it then take her to the vet. She's probably got a skin infection going on (from all the licking). Your groomer may be innocent in this, I'd call her and talk about it. She'll for sure want to make a note of it so it won't happen again. If you don't take her back to the same place still let the next place know that she's xtra sensitive in that area. :)

If she was matted in those areas, particularly the area around the vulva, the hair can soak up the urine and burn the area, when the hair is clipped off the dog can finally get to the skin and constant licking can aggravate the situation.
Some dogs will just feel a little naked and can be upset by feeling a draft down there. Others can get a bit itchy just from the regrowth of the hair

Thanks for all the imput all! She is feeling much better now, a little rash appeared and is clearing up nicely. She is getting back to herself but is still a little itchy,
