They're a nice size (50-65 pounds), they're very loving and vivacious. They are hilarious with their ways of begging and they show all kinds of emotion in their faces. It's hysterical to watch a tiny baby hunt, when their prey is bigger than they are. They all "stick" to people, so they are also called "velcro dogs."
They also play the kissing game. You get up to them, and look them in the eye, and kiss them on the nose. If they lick your face first, they win, if you kiss them before they kiss you, you win. They are usually gentle enough to do that with once they settle down. Mine was wacky until he got to be seven or eight. He ran with me until fairly recently.
One of my boarders very gently pulled my by the wrist once to pull my upstairs to her owner, so she could have all the people she loves in the same room.
I have pics of my Max jumping vertically about six feet up into the air. They love to carry dirty socks and bring them to you to greet you when you come in. they do the "little kid" front-paws stomp that I never saw another breed do. Like little kids do when they have a tantrum. they do this when they are trying to tell you they want something.
Then they put their ears back to beg with. I have pics, and they are the cutest things ever. I call it "sad ears."
My Max actually smiles when I come home and ask him, "Where's my smile?" He puts his head down, and looks at me sideways, and brings his jowls up like a smile. He loves to lay by the radiators where it's warm. He likes to be covered by a corner of the electric blanket.
When I got him, he literally adopted me. His owners dumped him off on me, and I have enough dogs around the house, so I was going to give him to my friend who is a very active Vizsla mommy. He looked horribly abandoned when I left him with her to try and settle in; she was going to take him to the park.
So they come back, and he flies at me on his back legs, and grabs me around the waist in a hug and puts his head in my belly like he does when he wants to be petted as if to say, "Don't ever leave me like that EVER again. That was AWFUL! We chased squirrels, and birds, but YOU weren't there!!"
Up between the Greyhounds, this might be my all-time fave breed. Well, I have to love the Redbone Coonhounds for their hilarious bark, "Wooo-woooo!"
The most gorgeous dog I ever saw is a Redbone. She was asleep when her owner got her eight years ago, and that's most of what's she's done since. She likes to borrow under the covers on the bed to be hot.
