What is your opinion on college?? Please no arguing, I just want opinions.

See I am thinking about weather or not I should go. My mom really wants me to go because she wants me to better myself and my dad don't want me to go because he says "People go to college the dumber they get." and I really don't know what to do. I don't really want to go to college because to me its all snobby people who think they know everything and the regular ones all they want to do is party, shop, get drunk and other stuff which is not me, I can't see any scense in getting drunk and being out of your right mind. I have to agree with my dad that alot college kids are just stupid from to much partying which have ruined their brain cells. Then I want to go so that I can get a good paying job. Well what I want to do, I really don't know if I need college or if some place will just accpect my application and accpect me. I want to design websites then from there I want to work on my passion which is go into a recording studio and show them some of my songs I have written and maybe become a songwriter or a music producer which is someone who helps a singer make a CD.

So here are my 3 questions.

1. Do you think I need to go to college for them 2 Career choices or just a certin Career college for that certain r?

2. What is your opinion on college?

3. Is it hard to get a job without a college degree?

Any advice will be helpful to me because I will be having to fill out my college applications next year.

I will REFUSE to do a community college because I don't want to take other courses other then what I have too. 12 years old school and no choices was bad enough , I wanna be done learning useless things!!

Well considering I have not yet gotten a job, I can't really help you in that respect. I can only give my opinion. I think that college is a waste of time unless:
You want to be a vet or doctor or something that you really *need* a degree for.
If you really like a certain subject and want to learn a lot about it, in which case I think college is more a waste of money for young people.. I think they should save their money and maybe go back to college later when they are more financially stable.
I personally will probably not go. I believe you can get a good job even if you don't go. Far too many people consider those without college degrees as idiots, it's sad. You probably could make more money if you went to college though, just because of the way the world views degrees. Good luck with your decision!

Please go to College! If I had the choice to make all over again I would have really, I mean REALLY, thought about it and probably went to college.
It takes commitment. Even dog trainer school takes something. And that's only eight months. Good Luck, Your choice is yours but consider college as a good thing not bad.

I totally agree with 6 dog, you should reconcider college. Yes I am sure that some people do go just to party, but that would be your choice. You have the opportunity to get an education in whatever field you choose. I went for 2 years (community) and I am thankful I did. I went for an education and got one, I did not go to party and I have never regretted it. In the end it is your decision, but think long and hard about your future. Good luck

The competitive advantage is yours if you choose to graduate from college. Experts who have researched the performance and job success of college graduates have concluded that, nationwide, college graduates with a bachelor's degree earn about 80 percent more per year than those who only complete high school. In fact, those whose education stops with a high school diploma may see their real wages decline over time.[1 (http://www.unt.edu/pais/howtochoose/why.htm)]

And a person with a master will earn around 30K / year more than a HS graduate. That could add up to 1 Million bucks.

Here is my response to your questions:

1. Do you think I need to go to college for them 2 Career choices or just a certin Career college for that certain r? Yes, definitely go to college if you are able to. Community college is the most affordable way to go and you can transfer to a University. If your grades enable to go right to a University, go for it. A college degree of any sort would never hurt you. No one could ever take that away from you. A degree would definitely help you.

2. What is your opinion on college? GO TO COLLEGE! In my family, we have always talked about college....it isn't an option. While you can, get some volunteer work in/community service. That is key to going to a University. I know of some kids that focused only on their academics and received a 4.5+GPA and didn't get into the college they wanted because they lacked the community service. Do it while you can and document it. You will also earn more money with a college degree.

3. Is it hard to get a job without a college degree? You can't go to college without a high school diploma or even the military. It is very hard these days to get a job without a college degree. Even more so, people that further their education (i.e., Masters degree, PHd) make the difference if two people are up against the same job. Don't get me wrong, you will be able to find a job without a degree, but it won't be the most desireable job. You could easily get a minimum wage job...is that what you want?

Any advice will be helpful to me because I will be having to fill out my college applications next year.
Study for your SATS as much as you can and whatever study courses they offer to prepare for them as well as writing essays. Your score also determines where you may get accepted. If you aspire to go to college, do it. Don't let your dad's views cloud what you want to do. Not everybody in college is what your dad believes. You have choices, and those people have made that choice, that doesn't mean you have to follow the same path they have gone.

i dont live in america but i too advocate going to college, choose courses that lead to your interest and study hard not every one are snobs or party animals there are hundreds of people that are just like you want to do something that will get them the job they desire and work hard party little but thoughrly enjoy college.

even web design and the music industry will look for people with further and higher education so go for it and aim high to get your dream job, college will give you more out look on how to compose music and songs and how to work in the music industry. There are also courses that help with web design and teach you every thing you need to know.

please dont turn your nose up at college it will help you with your future, all the best on your decisions

Well we have the money for college, my mom saved that long ago in the bank and so money, isn't an issue. I refuse to do community college because I refuse to have to do courses like littature and science because I feel it is a waste of time learning.

SATS I know I would fail because I am not smart at all. If I was to get into a graph design class it would be slim because I looked at what you need to know to get in and Algebra 1 was in there and I took algebra 1 this past year and I didn't understand a word and I was confused then again the teacher I had was not willing to help those who didn't understand. I can't even do simple math like 9 times 8 in my head. I just don't understand math and the stuff I do understand I have to use a calculator for.

Now when it comes to working with the computer and reading/understanding what is written I am very good in. I am very good at the computer and I have nack for that. I also understand how to write songs because they are based on how I feel emotionally.

I don't think I can get in without passing the algebra, algebra is something I will never understand. My mom tried helping me and it is just one of them things, I can't comprehend.

I know there is a differnce between Graphic Designe and Web Deisgn, but is there a certain college/school for just Web Design?? Drawing and understanding some of the techniques I am terrible at understanding. Drawing was never my high subjects, I am lucky I can draw a sick person.

I think there is web design courses out there. Look into a tech college. Not as hard to get into and also a little cheaper. Web designers make good money too.

Starry, it is in your best intrest to go to college:
For one, you get more oppertunity.
And,if you wanted to be a veternarian, you HAVE TO go to college, have to.

Unless, you wanted to be a worker at Mc.Donalds like a lot of people do...Or some, scummy other job.(I'm not saying for like a summer,job...But for your acual job,job...) I sugest you go to college.

Remember, you don't have to go now,you can always go back in the future, but it would most likely be easier if you went now.

At, least get your Bachlors...

For, me Im getting,Bachlors, Masters,P.h.D,maybe if I want to be a vet,Vet school,then 2 years internship.

^^^^^Now,thats a lot of school.10-12 I think.

Can you get a tutor to help you with the algebra? You have options that will open up doors for you. Don't say you are not smart, not everyone knows everything about everything. We all have our weak points, maybe yours is algebra. Don't give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Turfgirl, go seek out a math tutor. You need to understand math from the ground up and you need all that foundation to understand even basic algebra. For Graphic Design or Web Design, they have trade schools you can go to. I'm guessing in the field, you don't need a 4 year degree, perhaps a two year degree or some technical degree. Just so you know, if you go to a conventional college whether it be community college or a University, you will be expected to take Literature and Science courses regardless of your major. No way to get around it. It is your basic General Ed, whether you take it at a community college or University. Again, if you don't feel strong in any course in HS, seek out a tutor. My son travels a lot for a competitive travel sports team and he is going into 9th grade. When he was a 6th grader, I got him a math tutor because I didn't want him to fall behind. Math is one of those courses if you fall behind, it is very hard to catch up. At first, my son felt beneath needing a tutor as his grade in math was very good. I had to explain the purpose of him needing one. Then he understood. He's had a tutor ever since and I will get him one in HS. Don't limit yourself because of what classes you fear of taking or feel you aren't smart enough. There are various avenues to strengthen your skills and you can do it. YOU ARE SMART!
