Hello everyone. I am new to this web site. I have a 7 year old Sheltie named Sammy and a 9 week old Pomeranian named Pepper. Pepper is just adorable, but she loves to bite. My Sheltie is have a very hard time getting used to her and has snapped at her a few times. I want them to get along, but it is very hard. I am keeping them separated right now. Does anyone have any ideas on the biting situation or how to get the two dogs to "like" each other? Thanks for your advice

Hi There Deb
I am also new so I hope. This works okay. Not quite sure how to use this site yet so it is going to be trial and error..
A friend of mine's dogs used to bite her other dog and although this sounds silly it was jelousy bite the other dog used to nip for attention so she basically first of all had to pat and pay attention to the dog that bit then do the same to the other dog. Not sure if this is the same as your case but this is what her problem was

Okay, My name is Beth and I will try to help. Number one They will have to get use to each other so separating them is not going to work. I would only separate them during the time no one can watch them. Sheltie's are usually great with other dogs but since age might be a factor here Your sheltie may just not like your pom. My oldest chihuahuas didnt like my boxer puppy and put her in her place and she knew to leave him alone. Your sheltie just has to let the pom know who is the alpha dog. It will take a lot of time for everyone to adjust. I just recently got a new chia puppy and he has become friends with my female boxer and they are best buds. The two older chihuahuas hate him and dont really have nothing to do with him but thats okay. You have to teach the sheltie that he doesnt have to like the pom but has to tolerate him But not like him. I think it will be okay in time just keep an I on the little one and teach him to respect his elders. ha ha Don't leave them alone together without supervision that could be dangerous to the pom. I am not the dog whisper but I hope it helps.
