The first one is Mauree on his first off leash hike 2 weeks ago in the Kings Range Wilderness, home of the Lost Coast Trail.

The second is of Opie. My first Border Collie and hiking, biking, flyball partner. This is a picture of her in the Sierras.

Mauree is a blue Merle from Astra Sheepdog Centre in Scotland. He is about 19 months or so. I got him for herding. Do you have border collies?

No my dad had border collies for work but the last one died 2001 so im going to get one and try train it up in a couple of years, do you have advice on how to train them like with flyball and all that? i know how to train them to work sheep though

I could use the train on sheep help. I am sure there are some flyball clubs around you. It is a fast growing sport. Any kind of dog can do it. You must teach your dog to tug with you so when you start actually training for flyball the dog has a reason to come back as fast as it goes for the ball:)

Your BC's are gorgeous, K9Mania. I love BC's as they are so smart, quick to learn and so very faithful. I wish we had fly ball here as my BC would love that.

There is not flyball in Australia? I thought it was worldwide.

Totally beautiful dogs. They look like they're having a great time.
Love to go hiking with the pits, but the weathers getting too cold for it now.

Sorry, I should have explained myself better. Yes, we do have fly ball in Oz but not where I live. The closest is a near 4 hour return drive from here.

Ah and I thought 1 hour was too far. I drive 4 hours for my agility lessons because the woman is world known but it is a long day. You could start your own team:)

Thanks for the comments about my babies. They are here in WA with me. It snowed today and they loved running in it. I hope we get enough snow in northern CA to start snowshoeing. My goal for this year is to climb Mt. Rainier. My rule about hiking when I lived in PA and MI...as long as it was above 5 degrees and not windy we hiked. The dogs had booties from a company in Anchorage because when the dogs pull their feet out of the snow it turns to ice in their pads and can hurt and cause frost bite if cold enough.

Wow I love Mauree's coat and eyes! Gorgeous.
Opie is a little wonder dog as well...very good looking.

I didn't know until tonight that BC's came in anything but black and white. :)

I'd love to see your dogs wearing their booties. Must look so cute.
I'd love to start a flyball team but the people I know aren't motivated enough . They are flat out walking their dogs let alone flyball. Pity!!!
I hope you make your goal...let us know how you go. There isn't much more time left for this year. Where did the year go???? LOL

Looks like a fun and interesting place for them to hike! I take mine hiking, too. They love all the scents in the woods.

I had no idea there were merle borders. I've only seen black and white or a dark brown and white. THey're too wonderful

Beautiful dogs! Is there anything they cannot do? Sometimes it seems that they are outthinking you. They probably think that we are hard to train! LOL:p

Thank you. Mauree is beautiful with those eyes. But behind those eyes is a wild border. :) Always trying to outsmart me. We have big games seeing who guesses how the other will try and outsmart the other. I will try and put up a picture next week when I get back from WA of the girls in their booties and backpacks.

Yeah - theres Red Merles (Which are a Ginger colour and white) Blue Merles (Grey, Black and White - like Mauree) The more traditional Black and White and then Tri coloured which are black, brown and white. :)

I know what you mean though you generally only see the more traditional ones :)
