;) Our new drawing is for submissions about traveling with dogs. How do you handle safe, pleasant, travel with your dogs. How do you find places to exercise them? What hotel chains, campgrounds do you prefer? How do you handle safety and fear issues with your dog when in new surroundings? Providing ideas on this issue will help others take their dogs on long and short vacations and competition trips. :D On March 26, we will randomly select 3 of the suggestions and donate $15US to the favorite charity of those selected.

There are so many dog owners that think their dogs barking is music, and I have to put up with the noise. Why have a dog anyway? If someone breaks in, the dog will bark, just the same as it barks every day of the week. Stop being so rude and have your animal put down. Or move. Same difference to me.

Have you tried speaking with your neighbors? If they are unresponsive I would call the noise by-law officer and file a complaint each and everytime they bark and insist someone come out and give them a warning. After 3 warnings they will be fined. But I would not stop calling, even if you call 50 times a day. When they get fed up they will do something about the situation.

My son adopted a dog from the Humane Society a few years back. He was the smartest dog and was learning so many tricks. Unfortunately, I was the one at home all day and responsible for putting him out and bringing him back in. I would no sooner get him outside and he would start barking. I would have to wait and call him right back in as soon as he was finished potty duties. One of my neighbours called the police twice in one week because of the barking. We have a noise bylaw and the fine if they have to come more than once is $125 so after 2 calls to the police I was in a bind and had to get my son to return the dog. I do not know how other people cope in this situation, I am sure there are techniques to quiet the dog down and sometimes having another dog will help but if neighbours do not give you a chance to take measures and call the police without telling you first, then better get a barkless dog.

Some people have their dog's vocal cords cut to stop barking. It works, but is totally inhumane, obviouly causing discomfort for the dog who has now lost his only was of communiacting. Discuating, really.
