What about that stuff they advertise on TV that will fix any scratch in wood. You should be able to get it somewhere. OMG I hope you can hide it till then. Don't panic yet. Also try calling someone from the yellow pages for advice or call a place that restores old furniture. Good luck Hugs & kisses from Susan and Lexcee PS Tell Tigger BAD BAD BOY lol

no you dont understand...there are trenches TRENCHES in the wood ...like a pile of splinters in the floor...I am scared for TIGGER...as my parents will not tollerate him destroying anymore stuff..this is like the last straw, he already did some other previous things....this is not cool

Sorry Shara I thought you meant deep scratches, what about filling the trenches with liquid cement then sanding and putting on varnish. Sorry I misunderstood. Hope all goes well, praying for you and Tigger. Susan

Other than using some wood filler, sanding it down and revarnishing...I don't know what to tell you. :(
I wonder why you chose to place him so close to a valuable piece of furniture and how he got so bored?

I dont know, its like who would have thought, same as putting the crate against a wall...would you expect them to claw at the wall and make a hole? Something I never thought of....
It looks really jacked up right now, as I tried to match the stains I have with the wood...and then varnished it...it looke like...welll
A dog that clawed the heck outta it and a kindergardener that tried to finger paint to cover it up....

Just rearrange the furniture, is that possible. You could put the damaged side to a wall. Just an idea. I am definitly not up for covering up mistakes but if your parents will freak and give tigger away or something it may be the only way.
They have wood putty, then you can get touch up stain from home depot to cover it.
Good Luck.

I learned the hard way with my dogs. never put the crate up against anything... walls, furniture, anything they can get their little paws on! I put a peice of plywood between the walls and the crate. I still have to replace a bunch of drywall where the pups have decided to dig big holes in it. for your dresser I would go buy some wood putty its fairly simple to use. you pot it in the damaged area, let it dry, sand it smooth, and varnish to match the rest of the dresser. I had a border collie when I was younger, and when buster was 6 months old he got shut in the bathroom somehow when we was not home. we came home to all the bathroom linoleaum in a pile in the middle of the room!

Yeah that was my world with Jessie as a puppy....too many times to mention!!
OMG Shara, you had the kind of day I did yesterday, huh? That SUCKS!Unfortunately I would have to say yours is worse because you have to answer to you parents about it, and that sucks.
I think you have gotten some great advice on how to take care of it, hopefully you dont get busted in the process of trying to fix it!!

Don't try to hide it, fess up to the parents and tell them that you will be getting the piece fixed on your dime. I am assuming this is an antique or high-end piece of furniture right? So it would be better to have a professional try to fix it. Wood filler can look not bad but you will have to be very artistic to sucessfully hide the damage.

I stayed up till midnight last night working on it...it had some very wierd colored varnish on it, not dark enough to be cherry colored but too dark for my normal varnish to camo -cover it up..
I do alot of wood work off and on and I had alot of stains and varnishes and puddy that I tried...
The wood underneith is a very white colored wood and then the varnish was a particular color, so it just looked really bad.
I did show it to my mom who flipped out.
I moved Tigger to my brothers room this morning...out in the middle of the floor...LOL
I honestly learned a valueable lesson I never thought about a dog doing that...I am glad he clawed at it last night or otherwise I guess it could have been worse.
I hope anyone who reads this thread learns from my mistake.
Tigger went accident free up to ...well hes about 6 months old now....So this came out of the blue for me.
Saddly the way my room is arranged there isnt a way I can put the damaged side anywhere...not that I can think of right now.
