So two days ago, the little 5 year old girl I watched grow up from day one, do ballet in dance class, crashed and had to be hospitalized. :( I have been the nanny for this family for over 6 years. Maya is the happiest, friendliest, joyous little girl you will ever meet. She was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. :( Now my little dancer will have to take 4 shots a day & be at a constant battle with sugar levels. I love her so much and would do anything to find a cure for this. Thanks guys for listening.:(

I am sooo sorry she is going through this... so young! Hang in there hopefully they find the right dosage for her quickly. Good luck to both of you and again sorry. :(

My neice also had this dreadful condition, but she is now a healthy young woman. Yes it is hard, but at least it can be managed with the shots. It would be worse if there were no treatment at all. Hugs to your little dancer Susan & Lexcee

She is a wonderful successful young woman now. She has a great job and a super family. She has said often that the ordeal with this condition made her stronger than she thought she could be. Hope all goes well. Susan & Lexcee

I am so sorry Weesha. You can help in continuing your support of her and who she is, not by her disease. Hopefully more funds will go towards finding a cure..so many kids are getting juvenile diabetes.

I too will keep her in my prayers. My little sister, the 7 year old has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, which started in her toes and ankles, and is now flaring up into her legs and hips. It's a horrible thing to watch..She too takes dance, but she just gets more tired then the others and she has to take motrin every day to ease the pain. People make fun of us because she still needs a stroller, but she can't help it.
I really hope Maya gets better, it's awful when kids just can't be kids. If I were you though, I wouldn't bring up anything about the diabetes to her..just let her know she's still that normal, beautiful, excellent little dancer.

bless her little soul...so young...yet thankfully although there is no cure for diabetes once diagnosed and the correct level of medication is found there is no reason why she shouldnt continue with her dancing and live a fulfilled life. i see many young kids at the hospital where i work who are an inspiration to all who meet them in their acceptance that life will be different but not impossible.

She got home today. She looks like herself again. I learned how to administer shots to her & how to count her calories for her meals. Its going to be rough, but we are going to get though it!
