Jazz is getting better!

Jazz and I have had 8 private sessions with a trainer, and have now joined in her group classes, and today she was an absolute star! She did very good sits, drops, stays and recalls, and was listening and watching for the most part, though she's still very easily distracted by birds and butterflies and the other dogs. Classes are held at a disused holiday resort and we have access to one of the villas, so we practised waiting at the door until I was inside, greeting people at the door, and so on - all good doggy manners. I really can see an improvement in my giddy pup, and it's wonderful. I was really proud of her today.

Congratulations ... this is great news!!!

I interested to know:

What do you think has made all the difference?

What has the trainer done or said that makes Jazz respond so much better to you?

Yes, Congrats! It's so nice to have obedient dogs not just for society but safety for the dog as well.

What types of methods does the trainer use?

aewsome news for you It's great when all that training pays off. you put so much time and effort into these young dogs to finally watch them bloom into well mannered and adjusted adults.

Keep up the great work and give her a kiss

The trainer has taught me how to be firmer with Jazz and not let her get away with too much silliness. Plus repetition, perseverence and patience - and having faith that she CAN do it. It was stuff I already knew, but just needed someone to point it out and keep me on track.

Today we were doing off lead work - very well too - until Jazz decided to run to me at recall, then past me and off into the distance. Twice!! So, back on the lead for her! Oh, and lots more practice.

We've been doing a bit of agility the last few weeks, and Jazz just loves it. In typical country style the props are all make do - a rickety plank on a block to make a see saw, half a 44 gallon drum to jump over, a large cardboard box as a tunnel, an old wooden bench, kids hoops to go through - you get the picture? But it's all a lot of fun. Off lead work is much improved. Today's lesson was at the beach, followed by a long walk and a swim for the dogs. Needless to say they all enjoyed that! Wish I'd taken my camera.............

wow....a lesson at the beach!!! now there's a thought! i could do that here!!! glad all the training is paying off. it sounds as if you are gaining in confidence as much as your dog.... which tells me you have a good trainer! well done both of you. keep up the good work.
