Cerbies from what you say about the clicker and Max getting excited, (this is pure conjecture) but maybe it might not be the tool for him. I mean the clicker is great, but don't limit yourself to only using it. I agree that it will take more time than a puppy to train, and that training seprately will help best because you eliminate distractions. Has he showed any progress in the tricks you are trying to teach him?
