I looked at using the bike to get somewhere I was taking the dog. My conclusion was I couldn't safely use the bicycle to go anywhere if there was much traffic. It might work in areas with little or no traffic.

It is scary in traffic. I only have experience on one main country road I use to get from my house to the nearest park (about a quarter mile). I have the springer attached to the right side of my bike and always ride with traffic to the right. That way the dog is on the inside closest to the shoulder. Still, if you have heavy traffic, it is always a risk. I made sure also to have a rear view mirror to see what was behind me. Good Luck!
