As I am digging I see this huge worm grub type thing. It was about an inch long and really thick. It was grey with a mouth part and grabber legs in the first segment of the worm. It was really gross looking. Do you know what kind of bug this maybe? Or what type of bug it may become?
sounds like a leather jacket, if they are on top of the lawn and come out and head toward drive way or something solid sounds like a Leather Jacket. I don't know if they are common there. If it is it is the larvae of a crane fly. They look like huge white mosquitoes, and cling to screen doors and windows. Hope it helps. They are easy to kill with any insect control even organic

Grubs here are the larvae of June bug, Japanese beetle, or European Chaffer. If they are white c shape, brown head and 6 legs. They are below the ground as they feed on roots. I thought because she is describing grey and it was above that is why I suggested a Leather Jacket. Sorry did not mean to go on

It ranges from about $7 to $10 per square foot. Our yard is postage stamp sized, so it wasn't too terrible. Because it is maintenance-free and it has a 20 year life span, it ends up saving us money in the long run. Also it adds to the value of the house.
